Bravo Bravo…Abhinav Bindra finally fullfilled a Billion dreams…!!!!!Abhinav Bindra secured India’s First Individual Gold…!!!Gold at Beijing Olympics 2008 in Men`s 10 m air rifle competition on August 11.Bindra shot a total score of 700.5.Rewards & goodies shower on Abhinav Bindra for his Gold Medal .
In celebration and acknowledgement of the great achievement, cash rewards to the tune of Rs 1.66 crores and other goodies were showered on India's first Olympic individual gold medallist Abhinav Bindra, whose historic feat at the shooting range in Beijing sparked street celebrations across the country.
The Chandigarh marksman, who clinched the gold in 10m air rifle event, would be given Rs 1 crore by the Punjab government. Among other goodies, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad announced a free lifetime pass for travel by AC first class for the shooter.
The Indian Cricket Board, the game's richest body in the world, announced a reward of Rs 25 lakhs for Bindra, whom it had adopted as part of its efforts to encourage other sports in a cricket-mad country.
The Haryana government has pitched in with Rs 25 lakh and the Chandigarh Administration has decided to reward him with Rs 5 lakhs.
Maharashtra chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh announced a cash prize of Rs 10 lakhs for Bindra.
Madhya Pradesh counterpart Shivraj Singh Chouhan came up with a reward of Rs five lakh for his "golden performance".
Not to be left behind, Chattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh announced Rs 1lakh for Bindra.
Chief Ministers of Punjab and Haryana Parkash Singh Badal and Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Administrator of Chandigarh S F Rodrigues, who is also the Governor of Punjab, also sent separate messages congratulating Bindra, his father A S Bindra and those associated with the shooter.
Reacting to his achievement and on being asked about the specific reason for choosing shooting Abhinav Brinda said, "Because I liked the idea of fame." Son of a successful businessman in Punjab, Abhinav began praticing shooting at the age of 15 and his father's financial standing provided him with the best competition and training equipment. Bindra said he has an air-conditioned shooting range with a totally computerised Target Transportation System of international standards".
After the disappointment in Athens Olympics in 2004, Bindra shot into international fame by winning the gold medal at the World Championships in Zagreb two years later. Prior to that, he had bagged the bronze at the Munich World Cup and competed as the youngest shooter at the Sydney Olympics in 2000 at the age of 18 and became the youngest Indian to represent India at an Olympic Games where he had to remain content without a medal.
