Toll in Pakistan hotel blast reaches 53

IISLAMABAD, Pakistan - Four foreigners, two Americans, a Czech and a Vietnamese national, were among the 53 killed when a huge suicide truck bomb struck a hotel in the Pakistani capital Saturday, the Interior Ministry said.

About 266 were wounded in the attack, a top ministry official Rehman Malik told a news conference on Sunday. Eleven foreigners were among the wounded in the Saturday evening attack on the Marriott Hotel, he said.

The targeting of the American hotel chain appeared to be one of the largest terrorist attacks ever in Pakistan and came at a time of growing anger in Pakistan over a wave of cross-border strikes on militant bases by U.S. forces in Afghanistan.
